The Industrial Revolution was a period of time in the 19th century. Before this time, manufacturing was usually done by hand or some simple machines. The Industrial Revolution brought a new and more efficient method of working. Factories and mass production are just two important results that the Industrial Revolution brought. Although these new ideas are bright ones and would affect history's course, for some, the Industrial Revolution came with costs. The poor and working classes had terrible living conditions.
The Beginning of a new age
The Industrial Revolution actually originated in Britain before it spread to the United States. In England, primarily London, quicker manufacturing would become necessary as they were many people in a condensed location. One of the first important changes were when the English hurried the production of clothes. The period of time where the clothing manufacturing had dramatically increased was from 1770 to 1800. Although they were expensive, factories began being built in England because they could increase production. More practical machines, steamboats, and trains also began being built in England. The Industrial Revolution would quickly spread to the United States because England was a leader in colonization.

Spreading to America
New ideas and inventions sailed their way over seas to America during the Age of Industry. Some people believe the Age of Industry went from 1865 to 1900 because most of the important events took place during this time. Robert Fulton's steamboat made its debut in the early 1800's. In a short amount of years, steamboats were travelling across the Atlantic Ocean. Two important purpose of America's industrialization was easier travelling and independence from other countries. With railroads, the people could travel across the United States in a short few days. With factories, the United States could quickly produce goods. This would help the economy to grow and allow the country to build up defense. Factories quickly sprang up in cities throughout the entire country. The cotton gin, the reaper and the idea of interchangeable parts affected the rural towns and even the newly industrialized cities.
