This young child is a sweatshop worker.
Even when laws stated against child labor, it still continued.
Because of all the work, often times, children did not attend school.
These children are all coal mine workers. Coal had taken over wood for the source of fire.
Children, to help the family, had to work wherever they could to earn money.
Children worked almost every day of the week for long hours in each day.

Although they were angry with the salary, men had to work otherwise they would be fired.
